My Big Fat Greek Wedding remains one of the most beloved romantic comedies of its era, charming audiences worldwide with its warm humor and relatable family dynamics. Fans often find themselves wondering about the real-world locations behind the film, as the settings play a crucial role in bringing its story to life.
The film was primarily shot in Toronto, Canada, despite being set in Chicago. The production chose Toronto for a variety of practical reasons, including its versatile cityscape and a favorable film tax credit system that helped keep costs manageable while maintaining high production quality.
Key scenes were filmed at iconic Toronto landmarks and neighborhood streets that were dressed to resemble Chicago's Greek community. The family's home, Toula's workplace, and the Greek festival areas were all carefully chosen to create an authentic immersive atmosphere for viewers.
