So you've been playing Fortnite for a while now, and that username from years ago? It's starting to feel like an old nickname from middle school that you secretly wish you could un-embarrass yourself from.
Nobody wakes up excited to be called xX_DarkWolf_Xx79 forever. But here's the good news: changing it isn't as scary as it sounds.
The Good News: You're Not Stuck With It
Think of your Fortnite username like the name on your coffee cup at Starbucks. Imagine baristas yelling out "Grande Latte for BattleBunny2009!" in front of a crowd — we've all been there with a questionable name choice.
Must Read
The good news is that you can change it, and honestly, you should if it no longer reflects who you are. Maybe you've grown up a bit and want something cleaner, or maybe you're just tired of people laughing at it.
On PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch?
Here's where it gets interesting: Fortnite doesn't use its own separate username system. Your display name is actually pulled from whatever platform you're using.
So if you're playing on Epic Games PC, you'll change your name through your Epic Games account settings. Just log in, head to "Account Settings," and look for the display name field.

If you're on PlayStation, your name comes from your PSN account. You'll need to visit PlayStation's own website or settings to update it there.
Same story for Xbox — your Gamertag is the boss here. And on Nintendo Switch, your name ties to your Nintendo account.
Why Does This Even Matter?
You might wonder, "Is it really worth the effort?" Picture this: you're squad-filling with strangers and someone calls out your old cringey name. It's like wearing the outfit you wore to a middle school dance to an actual adult party.

Your username is your identity in every match. It's what teammates see, what enemies remember, and what appears on your clips.
Having a name that feels right makes logging in feel a little more exciting.
The One Catch You Should Know
On Epic Games PC, you can change your display name every two weeks. This exists to prevent people from constantly flip-flopping and confusing their friends.

PlayStation and Xbox each have their own rules — PS4 sometimes made you pay for name changes, while Xbox allows it more freely now. So double-check your platform's policy before diving in.
A Little Motivation
We all change things over time — hairstyles, lock screen photos, favorite snacks. There's no reason your gaming identity should stay frozen like milk left out in a Fortnite storm circle.
So go ahead, pick a name that makes you smile. You deserve that small upgrade — your future self, loading into the next match, will thank you.
