So, you’ve binged Stranger Things Season 4. Now you’re asking the big question: How old was Sadie Sink? It’s a fun rabbit hole, trust me. Let’s time-travel right now.
The Magic Number: 20
Sadie Sink was 20 years old for most of the Season 4 shoot. Filming kicked off in early 2020, but it stretched into late 2021. That means she was a full-on adult playing a high school sophomore. Mind blown yet?
Her character, Max Mayfield, is supposed to be around 15 or 16. So Sadie was playing a role nearly five years younger than herself. That’s some serious acting juice.

Why Does This Even Matter?
Because Max goes through hell in Season 4. She runs from Vecna. She faces her trauma. She nearly dies. A 20-year-old actor brought that raw, screaming emotion to life. It’s wild to think a grown woman was faking a teenager’s panic attack so perfectly.
Plus, the age gap explains her epic style. Max’s look in Season 4 is cooler, sharper, more defined. That wasn’t accident. Sadie’s real-life maturity seeped into the character’s vibe.

A Totally Random Timeline
Let’s get specific. Sadie was born on April 7, 2002. When Season 4 dropped in May 2022, she had just turned 20. So while we watched her in Vol. 1, she was literally celebrating her twenties. Bizarre, right?
Now here’s the kicker: By the time the Season 4 finale aired in July 2022, she was 20 years, 3 months old. That’s the same age as most college juniors. Meanwhile, her character is dodging an interdimensional monster in algebra class.
But Wait—The Cast Gets Weirder
Compare her to the other kids. Millie Bobby Brown was 17 or 18 during filming. So Millie played Eleven, who is also around 15. That means Millie was closer to her character’s age. Sadie was the old pro of the group.

Then look at the boys: Finn Wolfhard was 18. Noah Schnapp was 16. Gaten Matarazzo was 18. Sadie was the seasoned veteran at 20. She brought the older-sibling energy to set. Literally.
Why This Topic Is So Fun
Because it breaks your brain. You watch a show about kids, but the actors are often fully grown. Sadie’s age lets you appreciate her performance on a new level. She wasn’t coasting on teen angst. She brought adult craft to a teenage role.

It also sparks a fun game: “Guess the real age.” Next time you rewatch the scene with Max floating in the air, remember—that’s a 20-year-old woman being ragdolled by wires. We stan a physically committed queen.
The Final, Punchy Truth
So to answer your question: Sadie Sink was 20 in Season 4. That’s it. That’s the tea. Now you know why her acting felt so dang sharp.
Go ahead. Impress your friends at the next watch party. Drop the fact like a mic. “You know, Sadie was actually 20 when she filmed that scene…” Watch their faces melt. You’re welcome.
