So, you’re wondering how old Finn Wolfhard was in 2018? It’s one of those fun little fact-checks that pops up when you’re binge-watching Stranger Things or rewatching IT. Let’s break it down, but keep it chill—like a quick math problem over coffee.
Finn Wolfhard was born on December 23, 2002. That means in 2018, he turned 16 years old. Yes, he turned 16 right at the end of the year, which makes most of 2018 his age-15 era.
Think about that for a second. While most of us were worrying about high school math tests or figuring out what to post on Instagram, Finn was already a seasoned actor. He was juggling supernatural demons on Netflix and a terrifying clown on the big screen.

The Year He Became a Household Name
2018 was a massive year for Finn. He starred in the first season of Stranger Things back in 2016, but by 2018, Season 2 had dropped and Season 3 was on the horizon. Fans were obsessed with his character, Mike Wheeler.
On top of that, 2018 was the year IT: Chapter Two started filming. The first IT movie came out in 2017, but in 2018, he was deep in the hype as the young Richie Tozier. Imagine being 15 or 16 and already the face of two massive franchises.
Oh, and let’s not forget his music. In 2018, Finn was also rocking out with his band, Calpurnia. They released their debut album, Scout, that year. So, while he was acting, he was also living out a rockstar fantasy. Pretty cool, right?

It’s All About the Math
Let’s do a quick timeline just for fun. In January 2018, Finn was 15 years and 11 days old. By December 2018, he was exactly 16. So if you see a picture of him from the middle of 2018, he was 15 and a half—give or take a few months.
Why does this matter? Because it puts his career into perspective. At an age when most kids are just getting their driver’s permits, Finn was already a seasoned professional. He was dealing with fame, press tours, and learning guitar riffs.
Compare that to a typical 15-year-old. You’re probably thinking, “What was I doing when I was 15?” For Finn, the answer is: saving Hawkins, Indiana from the Mind Flayer, and making millions of fans scream at a clown named Pennywise.

The “So What?” Factor
You might be thinking, “Okay, but why does his age in 2018 even matter?” It matters because 2018 was a pivot point for his career. It was the year he went from a kid actor to a young adult star. He was no longer just “the kid from Stranger Things.”
He was also doing voice work for The Addams Family (which came out later) and gearing up for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. All of this was set in motion when he was just a teenager. That’s impressive.
And let’s be honest—his age makes his acting even more impressive. Can you imagine keeping a straight face while a CGI monster chases you, all while doing a New Jersey accent? At 15? No way. That takes serious skill.

So, Final Answer?
To wrap it up: Finn Wolfhard was 15 for most of 2018, and turned 16 on December 23rd. So if you’re looking at any scene from Stranger Things Season 2 or the IT press tour, you’re watching a 15-going-on-16-year-old.
It’s one of those fun facts that makes you appreciate how young he was when he blew up. And it’s a reminder that age is just a number—especially when you’re starring in two of the biggest pop culture events of the decade.
So next time you watch him deliver a monologue about Eleven, just remember: he was probably still figuring out his high school locker combination.
