How Old Is The Harry Potter Cast

Let’s be real for a second: if someone told you that Daniel Radcliffe is now in his mid-thirties, you’d probably feel a little twinge in your lower back. Time is a thief, and it’s been especially busy with our favorite Hogwarts alumni. So, grab a Butterbeer (or a stiff coffee), and let’s do the math—with a few giggles along the way.

First up, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry himself) was born on July 23, 1989. That makes him 34 going on 35. Yep, the boy who lived is now a man who pays taxes. Meanwhile, Emma Watson (our brilliant Hermione) turned 33 on April 15, 1990—meaning she’s officially old enough to have re-read all of Hogwarts: A History about twelve times over. And Rupert Grint (the ginger we all adore) hit 35 on August 24, 1988. He’s now older than Arthur Weasley was in the first film. Let that sink in.

But wait—the adult cast is a whole other level of “wait, what?” Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) is a legendary 89 and still an icon. Alan Rickman, our eternal Snape, would have been 78 if he were still stirring potions. And Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid) passed at 72—still big, still fuzzy at heart. Meanwhile, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is a shockingly youthful 36, which proves that Malfoy genes do age well—even if his hair got less platinum.

The truly wild part? The three main kids were 11, 11, and 12 when they filmed Philosopher’s Stone. Now, Radcliffe is older than his own father character in that movie (the late Richard Harris was 71). It’s enough to make you check your own mirror for crow’s feet.

So here’s the uplifting truth: They grew up. We grew up. And while the Marauder’s Map might show their ages as “Mischief Managed,” the magic isn’t gone. It’s just swapped broomsticks for book deals, charity work, and the occasional red-carpet joke about Voldemort’s sartorial choices. As long as we keep rewatching, the cast is forever young—and so are we. Cheers to that, Potterheads. 🦁
