So, you want to know how old Rory McIlroy is? It’s a simple question, right? But with him, nothing is ever just that simple.
He was born on May 4, 1989. That makes him a Taurus, by the way. Stubborn, determined, and loves the good life—fits like a glove.
Right now, he’s 35 years old. Yes, thirty-five. Which is wild when you think about how long he’s been dominating golf.
Must Read
He turned pro at just 18. Eighteen! Most of us couldn’t decide what to eat for breakfast at that age.
By 22, he’d already won his first major. The 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional. He blew the field away by eight shots. Insane.
Now, here’s the funny part. He’s been famous so long, people assume he’s older. “Wait, he’s only 35?” is a common reaction. He’s been a household name for over a decade.
Think about it. He’s been winning on TV since you were in high school. Or college. Or maybe even diapers. Rory is the ultimate “young legend.”

He’s just six years younger than Tiger Woods. But Tiger was already a global icon before Rory was even a teenager. Wild timeline, right?
The Quirky Birthday Details
He shares a birthday with George Clooney (actor) and King George III (you know, the one from Hamilton). Talk about range.
His birthplace is Holywood, Northern Ireland. Yes, spelled H-O-L-Y-W-O-O-D. Not the movie one. His hometown is actually named after a holy wood. Respect.
He turned 30 during the 2019 Masters. He finished tied for 21st. Not his best birthday party. Ouch.
But he bounced back. He won the FedEx Cup that year. The guy hates being average.

Why Age Matters Here
Golfers usually peak in their late 20s or early 30s. Rory is smack in that “prime” zone. But he’s already been elite for so long.
He has four major wins. Still chasing that fifth. At 35, he’s got plenty of time. Jack Nicklaus won his 18th major at 46. Just saying.
But here’s the fun twist: Rory is already a grandfather figure to some young pros. He played against guys in their 50s. Now he’s facing kids born after he turned pro. Reality check.
Ludvig Åberg, the new Swedish sensation, is only 24. Rory is a full eleven years older than him. That’s a whole generation gap!
And what about Rory’s own age gaps? He’s married to Erica Stoll. She’s a few years younger. They met through the PGA Tour. Cute.
Rory McIlroy looks to become fourth golfer ever to repeat Masters title
Their daughter, Poppy, was born in 2020. Little Poppy is barely old enough to hold a golf club. She’ll probably be a prodigy too. It’s in the genes.
So, What’s the Final Answer?
Rory McIlroy is 35 years old as of 2024. He’ll turn 36 on May 4, 2025. Mark your calendars for a party.
But honestly, age is just a number for him. He’s not slowing down. He’s still bombing drives over 340 yards. He’s still chasing history.
The real question isn’t how old he is. It’s how much longer can he dominate? And the answer is: a very long time.
So next time someone asks, “How old is Rory McIlroy?” you can say, “Old enough to be a legend. Young enough to be an icon.” Then smile. You’re now the expert.
